![]() ![]() Next I removed the old ugly fabric from the seat cushions and wrapped the new fabric around the cushions securing it with a staple gun. Spray paint dries pretty fast so multiple light even coats gives the best result. I removed the cushions from the chairs, sanded all the iron parts of the table and chairs with a sheet of 220 sand paper then after cleaning everything I began spray painting light coats. Because I was on a serious budget, I checked out a few Facebook garage sale sites and scored! Free, seriously! Once I got my new prize home, I headed to Lowe’s for spray paint and to the fabric store for a 2 yard upholstery remnant to cover the chairs. With messy littles at home, I was looking at replacing my antique mahogany kitchen table and chairs with something I could easily clean up after crafts and meals. By painting the bottom, it allows the light to reflect easier.įinally, I spray painted the bottom side of my acrylic with frosted glass spray paint, laid it inside the framed top and secured it by adding silicone around the center between the acrylic and trim. I made sure to leave a small gap in a corner for a chord to pass through. Next I cut a piece of plywood to fit the bottom of the table, spray painted it silver and attached it to the bottom of the table with wood screws so that it can be removed easily if the lights need to be replaced. I framed the top of the table also using L brackets with 1×2 boards and added trim around the center to leave an opening to fit the size of acrylic I had picked up from Lowe’sĪfter filling in all the gaps with wood filler then sanding, it’s now time for the fun part, painting! I painted the table and matching chairs several coats and then added a polyacrylic protective coat I then framed the bottom side of the table using 1×2 boards that I had spray painted one side silver and secured the boards with liquid nails, L brackets and short finishing nails I began by chiseling, hammering and scraping off the laminate piece. The table had a laminate top that was starting to warp. I started with a wooden children’s table that I had bought at a consignment sale a couple years before. I found a few companies online who sells light tables but they are a few hundred $$ so I decided to attempt making one on my own. At our local Discovery Place, there is a light table that my daughter loves.
